Current Priorities of the CFPHD and its Partners

Educating the Public

  • Public Education Campaign for Maternal/Child Health - The CFPHD’s Public Health Campaign for Maternal and Child Health, underway in Seminole County, aims to increase awareness among African-American women of health risks during pregnancy.
  • Oral Health - The CFPHD conducted educational seminars for the Hispanic and African American communty on the link between oral health and general health, including risk factors and prevention. Contracted by the Orange County Health Department in 2006, the CFPHD educated over 300 Orange County residents via seminars conducted at the African American Men’s Health Summit, Hogar Crea, Pine Hills Community Center, and East Orange Community Center.
  • Cuídate (Take Care of Yourself)
    • Cuídate's Chronic Disease Self-Management class teaches individuals with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and HIV how to manage their illnesses more effectively. The class is offered in a group format in the community, and meets once weekly for six weeks.
    • Cuídate also offers Medicaid enrollment services for those who qualify.
  • Center for HIV Education Empowerment Research and Support (C.H.E.E.R.S.) - The C.H.E.E.R.S Program provides HIV medications adherence education, counseling and peer support to people living with HIV/AIDS in the community.  The C.H.E.E.R.S Program works hand-in-hand with the Orange County Health Department Immunology Clinic staff, providing a comprehensive and integrated model of HIV care.
