CFPHD Public Education Campaign for Maternal/Child Health
The CFPHD’s Public Health Campaign for Maternal and Child Health, currently being conducted in Seminole County, aims to increase awareness among African-American women of health risks during pregnancy. According to the CDC, the risk of dying from complications of pregnancy is almost four times greater for African-American women than for white women.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Preconception health
- Prenatal and postnatal care
- Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
- Smoking during pregnancy
- Importance of folic acid
The program is providing educational outreach through churches in Seminole County with high populations of African Americans. It was funded by a grant from the Seminole County Healthy Start Coalition. For more information contact Lauren Josephs at (407)646-7120.
