Cultural Competence Training
The Cultural Competence Training Program addresses the needs of service providers working with diverse populations, including health care professionals, social service providers, and organizational leaders. The training program is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to promote a high quality of care or service.
It is tailored in length and content to meet the needs of your specific audience.
Presently available in the Central Florida region, the course is taught by Lauren Josephs, PhD, LMHC. Dr. Josephs was trained as a trainer of cultural competence by the National Multicultural Institute in Washington, DC and Network Omni Multilingual Communications in Chicago, IL.
Learning Objectives
Program completers will:
- Learn about cultural competence laws, mandates, and accreditation requirements; and federal and state laws for language access
- Identify the consequences of cultural barriers on outcomes
- Recognize the impact of health literacy on health outcomes
- Understand best practices in overcoming language barriers, including how to work with interpreters
- Discover best practices to support culturally responsive services, including communication models and community partnerships
- Understand how to conduct a self-assessment and develop a cultural competence plan
